Development of a Typeface

Development of a Typeface at Stevenson University's School of Design Gallery chronicled Baltimore typographer Tal Leming's process as well as the creation of Balto, one of his newest typeface designs. I created the exhibition design and graphics as well as the accompanying collateral materials.

Several interactive typographic displays were created for the exhibition, including a basic kerning exercise and an oversized flip book visitors could use to compare adjustments made during the typeface's development.

 Development of a Typeface

Development of a Typeface chronicles Baltimore typographer Tal Leming’s process in the creation of Balto, an American Gothic built for the 21st Century. The exhibition at Stevenson University's School of Design Gallery drew inspiration from type specimen booklets to show the range of Balto. I designed the exhibition, title graphics, and displays as well as the accompanying collateral materials.

Set in Balto, the title graphics feature a series of pangrams, a sentence that contains all the letters of the alphabet. Several other interactive typographic displays were created for the exhibition, including a basic kerning exercise and an oversized flip book visitors could use to compare the many adjustments made to a single letter, the lowercase g, during the typeface's development.
